Well the group stage is done and now we head towards the business end of the competition as we reach the brackets! With 24 teams left we’re moving closer and closer to finding out who will be walking away with over £1500 prize money!

The format for the brackets will be a best of three affair which should produce the most worthy winner with teams being tested on a variety of maps. With some BYE’s in the first round some group winning teams are lucky enough to already find themselves in the last sixteen for the rest a tricky opening round game is on the cards, will their be a potential upset on the cards or will the big guns all pass through unscathed, lets take a look at the first round games.

The two games that first caught my eye were FtD vs CMAX.gg and DITTO vs Imperial as I felt both games could provide a possible upset. This is where UKCS becomes hard to predict, as half the Imperial roster have jumped ship to H2K and with the CMAX.gg team being far from active if even still speaking to each other these fixtures could also be in danger of a default. It is perhaps safe to say that this first round then might be needed to flush out the pretenders and hopefully we will be left with a last sixteen packed full of committed teams foaming at the mouth, ready for war.

So all things considered my game of the round is Isomer vs Shinryuken. I think this is a battle of youth vs experience, with the keen young gamers of Shinryuken coming up against the old heads of Isomer.

Shinryuken have been around for a few months now performing well in last seasons SGL 9 and earning themselves a place in the Premier Division for season 10. They had a slightly fortuitous route through the group after suffering a tight loss to Ditto in week 1 (a results that raised a few eyebrows) they picked up two default wins in weeks 2 & 3 to ensure their progress in second spot. This is not to say however that their place is undeserved as had both those games been played I feel they would have been favourites to win them.

Isomer is a name that’s been around in UKCS for a long time now, often popping up in big competitions in a mix team style usually featuring the same group of players and ward0's chin. Between them they have a vast array of experience boasting some of the elder statesmen or UKCS and will certainly know what it takes to win here. The level of preparation is questionable, but they will be hoping that they have enough counter-strike savvy to outwit this latest batch of young pretenders.

I think this game could be a close contest with Isomer not really having been tested so far this game should provide the first real clue as to just how rusty some of the team is. Still, I think they should have enough to see off Shinryuken here, or though it would not surprise me at all if it goes to three maps. A win here will provide Isomer with some momentum and they could go on to set up a possible quarter-final with H2K, leaving Shinryuken to concentrate on the upcoming SGL season 10.

Player to watch: m1kke, some say he makes his own hair gel and that his real name is Michelangelo all I know is that he is undoubtedly the standout name on the Isomer team-sheet. They will be looking to him to take the lead in terms of frags, especially as terrorists to pick up the entry kills which lead to rounds in the bank. If he has an off day the tactics and teamplay of the keener Shinryuken could be tough to overcome.
